The creative drive is motivated, in essence, by a desire to capture something as yet unspoken, or perhaps unspeakable. It is only due to this urge that each indistinct sensation still submerged in the cloud of the unconscious can be accessed and, through it, given material form. Every step in the creation of a work acts as a reflection of the inner reality of the creator; a product of the accumulation of unseen influences, both external and internal. To a certain extent, every mark on the page or form given to a piece of clay carries a piece of the individual and is imbued with their life. As an artist, a large part of what drives my work is this same desire: to access and give expression to these often impenetrable internal images and, in turn, gain insight into their nature. It is rare for these to be isolated to a single individual. I believe that the process of creation allows for the most unbiased and cohesive representation of truth as it is felt, offering another angle through which to see others and the world at large. All art contains something of the universal. From my perspective, its importance lies primarily not as a tool for personal expression, but as a lens through which we can see the most fundamental nature of being human.
